Relative wants ailing man's deposition for potential lawsuit

Deposition

The relative of a former oil worker is seeking the court's permission to record a deposition for an upcoming lawsuit.

Scott Nugent filed a petition June 18 in Jefferson County District Court to perpetuate the testimony of Richard "Dick" Nugent in an upcoming lawsuit.

According to the petition, Scott Nugent anticipates filing a lawsuit against Richard's former employers Chevron U.S.A. Inc. and Texaco Inc. regarding exposure to asbestos and other hazardous chemicals during his employment, which allegedly resulted in lung cancer. Scott Nugent is asking the court to allow a deposition to be taken from Richard Nugent in the event he dies before a proper suit can be filed, the petition states.

Scott Nugent is seeking permission to take the deposition that can be used later as well as any other relief that is justified. He is represented by Beaumont attorneys J. Keith Hyde and D'Juana Parks of Provost Umphrey Law Firm LLP.
