Man says railroad company created unsafe working conditions which led to injury

A Silsbee man says he was injured on the job because of unsafe working conditions created by his employer.

Joseph Latulas filed suit Aug. 5 in the Jefferson County District Court against Trans-Global Solutions Inc., a national railroad contractor with offices in Beaumont and Houston.

Court papers say Latulas was injured on July 1 while working near equipment he claims was  defective. The unsafe condition caused a coworker to drop another piece of equipment on his foot, the suit states.

The injury, the plaintiff contends, was due, in whole or in part, to violations of federal statutes and regulations. The injury the plaintiff sustained is permanent and has had a serious affect on his health and well-being, according to the filing.

The plaintiff seeks a judgment against the defendant that compensates him for his physical pain, lost earnings and benefits in the past and future, physical impairment in the past and future, medical expenses and disfigurement, in an amount within jurisdictional limits.

He also seeks pre- and post-judgment interest.

Latulas is represented by David P. Wilson of Provost Umphrey LLP in Beaumont
