A Jefferson County man has filed a lawsuit against two Houston men after a car accident.

Chad Derese filed a lawsuit in the District Court of Jefferson County on July 16 against Oscar Rene Cano, citing negligence in the operation of a motor vehicle. The owner of the vehicle, Juan Francisco Gonzalez, is also named in the lawsuit for negligent entrustment. He was not present in the car during the collision.

As a result of the March 24 accident, Derese suffered severe and permanently debilitating injuries. The lawsuit alleges that Cano failed to maintain control of the vehicle, operated the car at a high rate of speed, failed to turn his vehicle in an effort to avoid a collision, failing to stop and various other acts of negligence.

According to the lawsuit, Gonzales knew Cano was a reckless and incompetent driver and is also being sued for negligence for entrusting operation of his vehicle to Cano.

Derese is seeking a trial by jury and damages that exceed the minimum jurisdiction limits of the court. Damages include medical expenses expected to continue for the remainder of his life, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish and loss of earning capacity for the remainder of his life.

He is being represented in the case by B. Adam Terrell of the Beaumont law firm Weller, Green, Toups & Terrell.
