The widow and the father of a deceased Orange County man are suing the physicians they allege caused his wrongful death.

Joyce Coratti and Nicholas Coratti filed a lawsuit June 9 in Jefferson County District Court against Dr. Miguel E. Castellanos, Dr. Robert Sweet and Dr. Stephen Lamendola, all of Beaumont, alleging negligence and wrongful death in the diagnosis and treatment of John Coratti.

According to the complaint, in the course of quintuple bypass surgery on Dec. 13, 2013, which John Coratti, 62, did not need, Lamendola tore the deceased's aorta, causing profuse bleeding, which, ultimately, led to a drop in blood pressure and Coratti's death.

The plaintiffs seek $1 million in damages, plus legal costs. They are represented by

attorney Christopher Smith of Smith Law Firm in Orange.

Jefferson County District Court case number D-197225.
