A professional basketball player is suing 24 Hour Fitness USA Inc. over injuries he allegedly sustained a few months ago while working out at the company’s Friendswood location, Galveston County District Court records show.
In a lawsuit filed Sept. 14 in the Galveston County 56th District Court, plaintiff and Friendswood resident James Blasczyk states he was playing basketball at his hometown’s 24 Hour Fitness club sometime in May when he suffered the injury in question.
The suit claims the facility’s basketball court was defective. Blasczyk, who is reportedly a member of the Otsuka Alphas Tokyo professional basketball team, says his ordeal has sidelined him “for at least the entire 2015-2016 season.”
“At this time, he is uncertain whether his injuries are career-ending,” the suit says.
It ultimately faults 24 Hour Fitness for failing to address the supposedly defective basketball floor.
“The defendant should have anticipated that a person on the property would not discover the danger or would fail to protect himself or herself against it,” the original petition says.
Consequently, Blasczyk seeks unspecified monetary damages.
