Cane

A Port Arthur man is suing a Texas scrap metal recycling company following a workplace accident.

Kenneth Williams II filed a complaint Sept. 15 in Jefferson County District Court against Jamyky LLC, doing business as Texas Metal Scrap Recyclers, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 5, 2014, while employed by the defendant salvaging steel in Port Arthur, Williams was helping another employee remove a steel table attached to a ship. After removing the last leg of the table, it fell and landed on Williams' fingers.

The complaint states the defendant was negligent in failing to provide a reasonably safe workplace, failing to establish rules and regulations for employee safety, and failing to properly train personnel, among other negligent acts or omissions.

As a result, Williams sustained injuries to his hand and fingers, has incurred medical expenses, and has experienced disfigurement, impairment, pain and suffering, disability, loss of enjoyment of life, and loss of earnings and earning capacity.

Williams seeks damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of this court, plus costs of the suit.

He is represented by James E. Payne and Ronnie Turner Jr. of Provost Umphrey Law Firm LLP in Beaumont.
