GALVESTON — A family is suing Mainland Medical Center, alleging the death of their wife and mother was due to lack of standard care.
David P. Petersen, as executor of the estate of Loyce Peterson, Frederick J. Petersen and Jonathan J. Petersen filed a lawsuit Jan. 5 in Galveston County District Court against CHCA Clear Lake, doing business as Mainland Medical Center, a Campus of Clear Lake Medical Center, Regional Medical Center, and Clear Lake Regional Medical Center doing business as Mainland Medical Center, alleging wrongful death.
According to the complaint, on Jan. 13, 2014, Loyce Petersen was transported to Mainland Medical Center in Galveston County, after complaining of right hip pain and other symptoms. On Jan. 15, Petersen was found on the floor with swelling on the top of her head, the suit states, and nearly an hour later, the doctor ordered a cat scan, followed by a second scan and a rapid response team upon the discovery of increasing intercranial pressure. She was transported to West Houston Medical Center where she died Jan. 27, the suit says.
The Petersons seek damages for legal and medical expenses, mental anguish, burial costs and loss of a loved one. They are represented by attorney Blaine A. Tucker of Houston.
