BEAUMONT - A Jefferson County woman is suing Beaumont, alleging a vehicle collision was caused by a city police officer.

Cynthia Faye Roberts filed a lawsuit Jan. 25 in Jefferson County District Court against the city of Beaumont, alleging negligence and negligence per se.

The suit states on June 26, 2014, officer Kyle Stevenson of the Beaumont Police Department rear-ended Roberts' vehicle as the two vehicles were traveling westbound near the 2500 block of College Street in Beaumont. The complaint alleges the officer failed to control speed, failed to maintain a proper lookout, and failed to operate the vehicle in a safe manner, among other negligent acts or omissions.

As a result, the plaintiff says she suffered personal injuries and property damage.

Roberts seeks monetary relief of less than $50,000, excluding court costs, interests and attorney fees. She is represented by attorneys L. Clayton Burgess and Sean McAllister of Lafayette, Louisiana.
