Ex-employee alleges Valerus guilty of discrimination

Handiscriminate

HOUSTON — A former employee is suing a Houston company, alleging race and age discrimination.

Yu-Ping David Oyoung of Missouri City filed a lawsuit on Dec. 24 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Valerus Corporation, alleging violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for employee discrimination.

According to the complaint, Oyoung was employed by the defendant in June 25, 2012, as a senior manager of process engineering until July 23, 2013, when he was terminated. The suit says the plaintiff was terminated based on his age at the time (59) in addition to his Chinese nationality.

The lawsuit alleges Oyoung was replaced with a younger employee who had less experience in the job, and that the plaintiff had been discriminated against for his age and race in the past.

Oyoung seeks damages, including back pay and front pay, with interest, liquidated damages, damages for mental distress, attorney fees, costs, disbursements and a permanent injunction enjoining the defendant to carry out policies against discrimination. He is representing himself.
