Cyclist seeks coverage from insurance companies after accident

Insurance 07

LUFKIN – An Angelina County man is suing three insurance companies seeking additional coverage after an accident to compensate him for medical expenses.

Brent Campbell filed a complaint on Dec. 21 in the Lufkin Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Safeco Insurance Co. of America, Home State County Mutual Insurance Co., and Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., alleging negligence, common law bad faith and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he sustained injuries in July 2014 when he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle. The plaintiff holds Safeco Insurance Co. of America, Home State County Mutual Insurance Co. and Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. responsible because the motorist that struck the plaintiff allegedly was underinsured with a maximum coverage liability of $30,000, which is not enough to pay plaintiff's medical expenses in addition to compensating the plaintiff.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for all damages including interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just and proper. He is represented by George Chandler of Chandler, Mathis & Zivley PC in Lufkin.
