BEAUMONT — A Sabine County seaman is suing a towing company, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Michael Campbell filed a complaint May 16 in Jefferson County District Court against Higman Towing Company, alleging negligence in overloading the coolers at such a weight that that plaintiff could barely carry them.

According to the complaint, on June 2, 2012, he suffered spinal injuries while carrying coolers aboard the "Cove Point" vessel because Higman Towing overloaded the coolers.

The plaintiff alleges he sustained physical pain and mental anguish, plus physical disfigurement and impairment.

Campbell seeks monetary relief of more than  $1 million relief of between $200,000 and $1 million, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by attorneys Jon B. Burmeister and Tommy L. Yeates of Moore Landrey, LLP in Beaumont.
