Former Papa John's worker scores default judgment against pizza eatery

Law money 12

A lawsuit arising from a Galveston County woman’s claims that Papa John's fired her from her job at its Texas City store for reporting sexual harassment recently ended in the plaintiff’s favor.

According to recent Galveston County court records, Galveston County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox ruled in favor of Alize Shannon on June 3 by issuing a default judgment awarding her $18,905 in damages.

Shannon asserted in court documents filed July 24, 2015 that she, as a minor, rejected her general manager's advances only for the defendant to let her go.

According to the original petition, the termination was an act of retaliation.

Last November, Shannon submitted a motion for default judgment on grounds her former employer failed to answer the suit on several occasions.

The judgment negates a jury trial that was slated to begin Nov. 28, 2016.
