Widower files suit against Christus Hospital, others after wife's death

Medical malpractice 07

BEAUMONT – A Jasper County man has filed suit against several doctors and medical providers after his wife's death.

Roy Sanford, individually and as administrator of the estate of Nancy Sanford, deceased, filed a complaint in Jefferson County District Court against Christus Health Southeast Texas, doing business as Christus Hospital; St. Elizabeth Anesthesia Associates; Dean Fam, MD, et al. alleging that they failed to exercise ordinary care and practice acceptable to and required of health care providers.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 20, 2015, decedent Nancy Sanford had undergone non-emergency surgery for relief of cervical herniated disk. At some point after her discharge, the suit states her condition worsened and continued to deteriorate and she died from asphyxia on Aug. 22, 2015.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide appropriate medical care and treatment, failed to properly diagnosed and assess decedent's condition and failed to timely respond to an emergency situation.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, with pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court and such other relief to which he is entitled. He is represented by Jim M. Perdue Jr. and Richard T. Fass of Perdue & Kidd in Houston.
