Customer blames department store for fall, injuries

Slip01

HOUSTON — A Dallas County woman is suing a department store operator, alleging negligence caused her to fall and suffer injuries.

Mary Scoggin filed a lawsuit July 31 in Harris County District Court against Ross Stores Inc., alleging negligence in failing to provide ordinary care to protect its customers.

According to the complaint, Scoggin suffered multiple injuries when she slipped and fell due to an unknown substance on the floor of a Ross Stores facility. The suit says she has required medical treatment and care for her pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment and disfigurement.

The plaintiff alleges Ross Stores created and allowed the hazard to remain in its premises, failed to correct the hazard in a timely manner and failed to properly supervise the operation of its facility.

Scoggin seeks trial by jury, monetary relief of up to $75,000, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court and all relief to which she is entitled. She is represented by attorney Brian H. Crockett of Crockett Law PC in Houston.
