HOUSTON — A black Harris County man is suing a Sugar Land drilling company, alleging he was subjected to racial discrimination.

Andrew Collins filed a lawsuit Aug. 1 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Noble Drilling (U.S.) LLC, alleging violation of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, Collins, who began working for Noble Drilling in October 2012 as a warehouseman, was subjected to discrimination, disparate treatment, threats, intimidation and harassment. As a result, he suffered emotional distress and embarrassment, the suit says.

The lawsuit says Collins was denied the benefits, privileges, terms and conditions of his employment. The plaintiff alleges Noble Drilling retaliated against him for his uninterrupted reports of sexual and racial harassment by the defendant, transferred him to a less-desired offshore facility, repeatedly threatened him with writeups and impending disciplinary action and wrongfully terminated his employment.

Collins seeks a trial by jury, compensatory damages, back pay including lost wages and benefits, attorney fees, legal costs and all relief to which he is justly entitled. He is represented by attorney Chukwudi Egbuonu of the Law Office of Chukwudi Egbuonu in Houston.
