Black woman accuses Office Depot of racial discrimination

VICTORIA — A Harris County African-American woman is suing Office Depot, alleging emotional distress and racial discrimination.

Janie Davis filed a lawsuit Aug. 18 in the Victoria Division U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas against Office Depot, alleging violation of the Civil Rights Act and the Texas Labor Code.

According to the complaint, Davis was subjected to a hostile work environment, discrimination and bias because of her race, color and sex and retaliation for exercising her rights by opposing discriminatory practices. 

The plaintiff alleges Office Depot discriminated against her in connection with the compensation, terms, conditions and privileges of employment, deprived her of equal employment opportunities, retaliated against her and wrongfully terminated her employment Aug. 30, 2013.

Davis seeks seeks trial by jury, damages within the jurisdictional limits of the court, exemplary damages, interest, costs of court and allo other relief to which she is entitled. She is represented by attorney Allie R. Booker of The Booker Law Firm in Houston.
