Motorist blames Port Arthur school district bus driver for causing crash

Car accident 30

BEAUMONT — A Jefferson County motorist is suing the Port Arthur school district, alleging a district bus driver negligently drove into the plaintiff's vehicle, causing injuries.

Juan Hernandez Lopez filed a lawsuit Aug. 29 in Jefferson County District Court against the Port Arthur Independent School District alleging the district negligently entrusted the vehicle to Tracie Yvonne Johnson.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 15, 2015, Lopez was driving west on SH87 in Jefferson County while Johnson was traveling east. The suit says Johnson made a U-turn, striking the plaintiff's vehicle.

The lawsuit states the crash caused Lopez to sustain injuries that resulted in pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost earnings and medical expenses. The plaintiff alleges a Port Arthur Independent School District employee failed to keep proper lookout, failed to yield right of way and failed to operate her vehicle in a reasonable and prudent manner.

Lopez seeks trial by jury, monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, plus cost of court, pre- and post judgment interest and all other relief to which he is entitled. He is represented by attorney Jeffrey M. Stern of Stern Law Group in Bellaire.
