Smith County customer blames table saw manufacturer for severed finger

MARSHALL — A Smith County man is suing a table saw manufacturer, alleging the defendant's negligence resulted in the plaintiff suffering a severed index finger.

Martin Bradley Brown of Whitehouse, Texas, filed a lawsuit Sept. 7 in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas against One World Technologies Inc., alleging violation of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 15, Brown was operating his Ryobi RTS10G table saw in the proper position when one of the plastic blade guards suddenly broke off, pulling his hand into the blade and completely severing his right index finger from his hand. The suit says the injury has caused Brown to suffer pain, mental anguish, medical and pharmaceutical expenses and loss of earning capacity.

The plaintiff alleges One World Technologies negligently designed and manufactured the saw and its component parts and failed to inspect the saw and its parts for defects.

Brown seeks trial by jury, judgment of more than $75,000, plus pre-judgment interest, costs of suit and all other relief to which he is entitled. He is represented by attorney J. Chad Parker of Tyler.
