TYLER — A former inmate is suing Cherokee County and county officials, alleging denial of due process and equal protection of the laws.

Lisa Marie Stickle filed a lawsuit Sept. 8 in Tyler Division of the Eastern District of Texas against corrections officer Jared Alan Reamy, Cherokee County Sheriff James E. Campbell, Cherokee County Jail captain Fred Butler and Cherokee County, alleging violation of the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.

According to the complaint, during Stickle's 30 days incarceration in the Cherokee County Jail in summer 2014, she was repeatedly harassed verbally and was physically assaulted by Reamy. As a result, the suit says, she suffered physical and mental injuries.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants acted in concert to deprive her of liberty, due process of law, equal protection rights, privileges and immunities secured under the Constitution and failed to take corrective or preventive measures.

Stickle seeks trial by jury, punitive damages of $1 million against each defendant, compensatory damages of $3 million against Reamy, all court costs, attorney fees and expenses and any other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorneys J. Keith Mayo and T. Heath Chamness of Mayo Mendolia & Vice LLP in Tyler.
