Jefferson County alleges property owners owe $13,000

BEAUMONT — Jefferson County is suing local property owners, alleging unpaid taxes of more than $13,000.

Jefferson County filed a lawsuit Sept. 16 in Jefferson County District Court against Lewis Acres Services Inc., et al, alleging failure to to comply with its obligations.

According to the complaint, the county has suffered monetary damages for not collecting real property taxes from 2011 through 2015 of $13,418.55, penalties and interest included. The plaintiff alleges Lewis Acres Services failed to make payment for the assessed taxes on its properties.

Jefferson County seeks trial by jury, the total amount of all delinquent taxes, plus penalties and interest, costs of court, attorney fees, abstract fees and expenses of foreclosure sale and all other relief. It is represented by attorney Clayton E. Mayfield of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson LLP in Beaumont.
