BEAUMONT — A Beaumont couple is suing medical care providers, alleging their negligence caused post-surgery complications for the wife.

Stacey Elaine Cepeda and Juan Cepeda filed a lawsuit Sept. 16 in Jefferson County District Court against Dr. Jefrey Friedman, FACS, Previty Surgical Consultants PLLC, Previty Surgical East PLLC and Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital, et al, alleging failure to conform to the requisite standard of reasonable care.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 19, 2014, Stacey Elaine Cepeda received medical consultations and medical care from the defendants, including a gastric sleeve surgery. As a result of defendants' negligence, the suit says, Cepeda suffered personal injuries which required additional surgeries and medical care in the amount of $418,821.

The lawsuit says Cepeda sustained physical pain and mental anguish, physical impairment and loss of earning capacity.

Juan Cepeda alleges he sustained loss of consortium, loss of household services and emotional and mental anguish.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to render and provide reasonable medical care care under the circumstances and failed to exercise the required degree or skill required by a medical practitioner.

The Cepedas seek trial by jury, judgment within the jurisdictional limits of the court, plus costs of suit, pre- and post-judgment interest, and all other relief. They are represented by attorneys Brian D. Sutton of Sutton & Jacobs LLP in Beaumont, and by Casey H. Hargroder and H. Scott Alexander of Kobedeaux, Hargroder & Alexander LLP in Beaumont.
