Katy motorist blames U.S. government for crash that caused injuries

Car accident 29

HOUSTON — A Katy woman is suing the United States, alleging the defendant's negligence resulted in a vehicle crash that injured the plaintiff.

Brenda Akpan filed a lawsuit Oct. 5 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against the United States of America, alleging that defendant’s driver, Tyrone Richardson, negligently operated his vehicle.

According to the complaint, on April 25, 2014, Akpan was driving southbound in the left lane of the 5400 block of Barker Cypress Road in Cypress when USPS employee Tyrone Richardson, who was operating a mail carrier van, struck the passenger side of the plaintiff's vehicle. The suit says Akpan continues to suffer injuries and medical expenses from the crash.

The plaintiff alleges the government employee failed to keep proper lookout and attention to the roadway, failed to keep an assured safe distance and failed to timely apply brakes to his vehicle.

Akpan seeks trial by jury, all damages, all costs and interest and all other relief to which she is justly entitled. She is represented by attorney Paul A. Higdon of Higdon Lawyers in Houston.
