BEAUMONT — A Beaumont woman is suing the driver of a car in which the plaintiff was a passenger, alleging the defendant's negligence caused a crash.
Ada Silas filed a lawsuit Oct. 3 in Jefferson County District Court against Rebecca Mitchell, alleging the defendant carelessly operated a motor vehicle.
According to the complaint, on April 12, in the westbound lane of Interstate Highway 10 in Calcasieu Parish in Louisiana, Silas was a passenger in Mitchell's vehicle when Mitchell suddenly changed lanes causing it to sideswipe an 18-wheeler truck. The suit says Silas sustained severe injuries to her body, resulting in medical care related expenses, physical pain, mental anguish and lost wages.
The plaintiff alleges Mitchell negligently drove her vehicle while intoxicated, failed to operate the vehicle in a safe manner and failed to keep proper lookout.
Silas seeks trial by jury, monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, plus interest, costs of court and all other relief to which she is entitled. She is represented by attorneys Mark C. Sparks and Michael A. Downey of Mostyn Law in Beaumont.
