Three employees accuse deepwater drilling company of failing to pay overtime

Oilrig 07

HOUSTON — Three employees are suing a Houston deepwater drilling company, alleging violation of workers compensation acts in failing to pay proper overtime.

Dennis Woodward, Robert Laws and Vernon L. Cromuel filed a class action complaint, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, Oct. 11 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Seadrill Americas Inc., alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, Woodward, Laws and Cromuel regularly worked more than 40 hours per week without receiving overtime payment at a rate not less than one and one-half times their regular rate for each hour worked in excess of 40 per week.

The plaintiffs allege Seadrill Americas required them to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of each shift in order to attend a mandatory shift meeting and failed to maintain accurate time and pay records.

The plaintiffs seek trial by jury, all unpaid overtime wages, liquidated damages, attorney fees and court costs, interest and all other relief to which they are justly entitled. They are represented by attorneys Melissa Moore, Rochelle Owens and Curt Hesse of Moore & Associates in Houston.
