HOUSTON -- An attorney with the Potts Law Firm has earned an award for being one of Texas' the top young attorneys.
Andrew Woellner of Potts was recently notified by the National Trial Lawyers that he had been included in the organization’s Top 40 Under 40 Trial Lawyers list, which ranks attorneys by state all across the country.
“It’s a really big honor and we’re proud of Andrew,” Kasey Long, Potts’ public relations manager, recently told the Southeast Texas Record.
She said the honor is especially pertinent in that the award is selected by peers.
“It says a lot about Andrew because the award’s nominations are made by fellow attorneys,” she said. “They are chosen because of their leadership skills and trial outcomes.”
A news release from the firm outlines why Woellner was recognized.
“Woellner has shown he exemplifies superior qualifications, leadership skills, and trial results as a trial lawyer,” the release said. “He aggressively works to represent his clients in civil litigation, focusing his practice in the areas of product liability, personal injury litigation, employment matters, and maritime litigation. He has an established reputation with the bar, judiciary and clients for honesty, integrity and hard work.”
The release also quotes the firm’s national manager partner, Derek H Potts.
"We are very proud of Drew. He continues to distinguish himself as a rising star among young plaintiffs' attorneys," Potts said.
Long said she is unaware that any other law firms in the Houston area that had attorneys named to the Top 40 list.
“It’s quite an honor for him to be named but it’s an honor for us, too," she said, although the firm’s attorneys have won several other prestigious awards.
The Top 40 award is given out annually by the National Trial Lawyers organization to trial lawyers who practice civil plaintiff or criminal defense law. Selection is based on a thorough multi-phase objective process which includes peer nominations combined with third-party research.
“Selection is based on a thorough multi-phase objective process which includes peer nominations combined with third-party research,” says the description of the awards program on the organization’s website.
National Trial Lawyers also offers an annual list of Top 100 lawyers and sponsors specialty associations devoted to specific fields of practice. It also sponsors an annual Trial Lawyers Summit. There are 19 specialty associations.
The efforts are designed to promote industry attorneys who exemplify the best the legal profession has to offer.
