Accounts manager accuses former employers of wrongful firing

Wrongful term 03

GALVESTON — A Galveston County woman is suing an Ohio-based employer and officials, alleging discrimination, retaliation and wrongful discharge.

Karen Terrell filed a lawsuit Oct. 26 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Nutis Press Inc. of Columbus, Ohio, Ira Nutis and Sam Nutis, alleging violation of the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, due to injuries she sustained in a car accident Feb. 18, 2015, Terrell was left wheelchair-bound for several months, and was then required to use a walker and a cane. Due to her disability, the suit says, she was terminated Feb. 12, 2016, causing her to suffer lost wages and benefits, mental anguish, inconvenience and loss of enjoyment of life. She had worked for Nutis Press since 2008 as an accounts/territory manager.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants subjected her to discrimination and adverse employment actions. After her termination, her assigned sales territory was given to a less-qualified and younger male employee, the suit says.

Terrell seeks trial by jury, all damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees and court costs, plus all other equitable and appropriate relief. She is represented by attorneys Jennifer J. Spencer, Mary L. Scott and James E. Hunnicutt of Spencer Scott PLLC in Dallas.
