General manager accuses former employer of wrongful discharge

Wrongful term 03

BEAUMONT — A Texas woman is suing a Canadian company, alleging wrongful discharge.

Christi Hartsfield filed a lawsuit Nov. 2, in the Beaumont Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Fastenal Company of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, alleging violation of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the Texas Labor Code.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 6, 2014, Hartsfield was terminated from her employment as a general manager for requesting that a co-employee attend a conference call on her behalf. As a result, the suit says, Hartsfield suffered financial damages for being unable to find a job with comparable pay and incurring expenses in seeking employment out of state, mental anguish and humiliation.

The plaintiff alleges Fastenal intentionally discriminated against her because of her sex and subjected her to adverse employment actions.

Hartsfield seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages, back pay, front pay, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees and costs of court, plus all other relief. She is represented by attorneys David E. Bernsen and Christine L. Stetson of Bernsen Law Firm in Beaumont.
