VICTORIA — An employee is suing a barge owner, alleging its negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.
Corny Etheridge filed a lawsuit Nov. 7 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas Victoria Division against American Commercial Barge Lines LLC, doing business as ACL Lines Inc. alleging failure to provide a safe place to work.
According to the complaint, on Dec. 10, 2014, Etheridge was loading smelter grade alumni onto a barge owned by ACL Lines when he fell due to cables negligently left on the barge. The suit says the fall caused Etheridge to sustain severe injuries that required total knee replacement.
As a result of the incident, the lawsuit states, Etheridge has suffered and will continue to suffer medical expenses, disfigurement and loss of earning capacity. The plaintiff alleges ACL Lines failed to take reasonable precautions for his safety and failed to adequately inspect and repair the defective condition.
Etheridge seeks trial by jury, damages based on the evidence that should exceed $75,000, plus interest, costs of court and all other relief to which he is entitled. He is represented by attorney George K. Farah of Houston.
