Lead well engineer blames Houston energy company for visa troubles

HOUSTON — A Harris County man is suing a Houston oil and gas company, alleging breach of contract and fraud.

John D. Smith IV filed a lawsuit Nov. 17 in Harris County District Court against BG US Services Inc., alleging the defendant fraudulently procured his visa stamps.

According to the complaint, Smith suffered monetary and professional damages for facing an investigation in Bolivia regarding his fake entry stamps and fake 30-day visa stamps. The suit says Smith was forced to pay $2,000 to hire a lawyer to assist him and for being unable to seek employment in Bolivia due to his outstanding litigation.

The lawsuit states Smith is subject to 6 years imprisonment. The plaintiff alleges BG US Services fraudulently secured Smith's  false visa and work permit, failed to resolve the counterfeit visa matter, failed to provide legal assistance and terminated his employment Sept. 26, for failing to procure a valid visa.

Smith seeks trial by jury, award for damages in an amount to be determined at trial, court costs and expenses, pre- and post-judgment interest, and all other equitable relief. He is represented by attorneys Dawn R. Meade and Ashley M. Spencer of The Spencer Law Firm in Houston.
