Tenant blames apartment owner for shooting

HOUSTON — A Houston man is suing an apartment owner, alleging negligence led to the plaintiff being shot on the apartment grounds. 

David Ramirez filed a lawsuit Dec. 9 in Harris County District Court against Eureka Multifamily Group, doing business as La Casita Apartments, alleging failure to exercise reasonable care and caution in the operation of the the apartments.

According to the complaint, on April 9, Ramire was leaving his apartment at 5911 Cochrane in Houston to go to work. As he was walking to his vehicle, the suit says, he was shot several times and severely injured by an unknown individuals who were attempting to rob him. 

The lawsuit states Ramirez suffered physical pain, mental anguish and medical expenses.The plaintiff alleges La Casita Apartments failed to provide adequate security systems and security guards.

Ramirez seeks trial by jury, monetary relief of up to $3 million, plus interest, attorney fees, court costs and all other legal and equitable relief. He is represented by attorneys Jonathan H. Cox and Shasta P. C. Blanton of The Cox Pradia Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
