HOUSTON — A Houston woman is suing a dairy products distributor, alleging negligent hiring and training led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Maria I. Pena filed a lawsuit Dec. 22 in Galveston County District Court against Southern Foods Group LLC, alleging negligently hiring a careless employee.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 9, 2016, Pena was working at Furr High School in Harris County when Southern Food Groups showed up to make a delivery. While the defendant's employee was pushing a dolly full of crates, the suit says, he ran into Pena.

The lawsuit says the collision knocked Pena to the floor and caused her to suffer severe personal injuries that required medical treatment and surgery. The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to properly train and supervise its employees.

Pena seeks trial by jury, compensation of $250,000 for personal injuries, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court and all other equitable relief. She is represented by attorney Jose Luis Orihuela of Orihuela & Associates PLLC in League City.
