Customer blames Macy's for fall, injuries

Slip02

HOUSTON — A Harris County woman is suing Macy's, alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Jessica Mary Barrera filed a complaint Dec. 22 in Harris County District Court against Macy's Retail Holdings Inc. alleging failure to exercise ordinary care to maintain a safe environment.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 27, 2014, Barrera was at the defendant's Macy's store in Deerbrook Mall in Humble to shop for merchandise and pay her bills. The suit says Barrera she slipped and fell due to a large amount of moisture on the floor of the store entrance.

As a result, the suit says, Barrera sustained injuries to her knee, back ad shoulder that caused pain, suffering and medical expenses. The plaintiff alleges Macy's negligently permitted the floor to become slippery and failed to warn her of a dangerous condition.

Barrera seeks trial by jury, monetary relief of up to $100,000, plus interest, costs of court and all other equitable relief. She is represented by attorney Oscar Trevino Jr. of The Law Offices of Oscar Trevino Jr. in Houston.
