HOUSTON — A black Katy woman is suing a fitness business, alleging racial discrimination and wrongful termination.
Michele White filed a complaint Feb. 8 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Lifetime Fitness Inc. alleging violation of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
According to the complaint, on July 13, 2016, White was terminated without cause. The suit says during her tenure with Lifetime Fitness she was not provided the same employment opportunities as her white counterparts, which caused her to suffer financial losses, humiliation and mental anxiety and stress.
The plaintiff alleges Lifetime Fitness subjected her to disparate treatment, discriminated against her and ultimately terminated her because of her race.
White seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, reinstatement or front pay, attorney fees, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court and all other equitable relief. She is represented by attorney Marjorie A. Murphy of The Murphy Law Practice PLLC in Houston.
