Couple blames asbestos-containing product manufacturers for husband's illness

HOUSTON — An Arizona couple is suing about a dozen asbestos-containing products users, alleging their negligence led to the husband developing lung cancer.

Martha Berryman and Manny L. Berryman of Maricopa, Arizona, filed a complaint Feb. 13, in Harris County District Court against 3M Company, Viacom Inc., Certainteed Corp., Domco Products Texas LP, et al, alleging they failed to provide a reasonably safe place to work.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 11, 2015, Manny Berryman was diagnosed with asbestos-related lung cancer disease due to exposure to asbestos-containing products. The suit says such products caused or contributed to the plaintiff's injuries. The suit says Martha Berryman suffered loss of consortium and service of her husband.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to provide adequate warnings and information to their employees of the dangerous health hazards associated with exposure to asbestos-containing products.

The Berrymans seek trial by jury, judgment, jointly and severally, for punitive and exemplary damages and all other just and proper relief. They are represented by attorneys Erik P. Karst and Philip Kanayan of Karst & Von Oistee LP in Houston.
