Ex-employee accuses tax preparation company of wrongful termination

Wrongful term 07

HOUSTON — A former employee is suing a Houston bookkeeping and tax preparation company, alleging wrongful termination.

Ashley Coe filed a complaint March 17 in Harris County District Court against Sienna Financial Services LLC, alleging violation of the Sabine Pilot doctrine in asking her to commit an illegal act.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 1, Coe was illegally terminated from her employment. As a result, she has suffered economic loss, emotional distress and mental anguish, the suit says.

Prior to her termination, the lawsuit states, Coe was instructed by the company owner to have a customer to sign tax forms, under penalty and perjury, on behalf of the customer's wife. The plaintiff alleges Sienna Financial Services fired her for refusing to commit an illegal act.

Coe seeks trial by jury, monetary relief up to $100,000, reinstatement and all other relief to which she is entitled. She is represented by attorney Nitin Sud of Sud Law PC in Bellaire.
