HOUSTON — An employee is suing Occidental Petroleum Corporation and Oxy Energy Services LLC, her former employer, citing alleged discrimination, retaliation and violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Melissa Freeman filed a complaint on April 25 in the Houston Division of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, alleging that the defendants interfered with her FMLA rights.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she experienced harm from being relieved of her supervisory responsibilities and treated differently after going on a FMLA leave for migraine headaches in 2015. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly retaliating against the plaintiff by terminating her employment.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount no less than $1.5 million plus punitive damages, interest, court costs, attorney's fees and other relief this court deems just and proper.
