BEAUMONT — A Beaumont man is suing a Jefferson County grocery store owner, alleging negligence led to injuries of the plaintiff.

Tommy Lewis filed a complaint April 20 in Jefferson County District Court against HEB Grocery Company LP, doing business as HEB, alleging the defendant breached its duty to provide a reasonably safe place to work.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 11, Lewis was working at the HEB store in Beaumont when he sustained injuries to his spinal cord while trying to remove merchandise from an upper shelf. Lewis says he suffered physical pain and impairment, mental anguish, lost wages and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges HEB negligently allowed its employees to continue improperly stocking merchandise on a defective shelve without modification.

Lewis seeks trial by jury, damages to be proven at trial, costs of court and all other general and special relief. He is represented by attorneys Tommy L. Yates and Jon B. Burmeister of Moore Landrey LLP in Beaumont.
