Jefferson County resident accuses apartment owner of negligence

BEAUMONT — A visitor is suing an apartment owner, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Kocatatie T. Thompson filed a complaint in the Jefferson County District Court against Clarence Coleman, alleging that the apartment owner failed to provide a safe premises.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 16, he was visiting a tenant at the defendant's apartment. While walking down the stairs, the wooden staircase completely detached, causing the plaintiff to fall to the ground. The plaintiff claims to have sustained injuries resulting in medical expenses, mental anguish, pain and suffering and loss of earning capacity. 

The plaintiff holds Coleman responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to inspect and remediate the dangerous condition.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief between $100,000 and $200,000 and other lawful and equitable relief. He is represented by Malachi Daws and Jason Daws of The Daws Law Firm in Beaumont.
