BEAUMONT – A Jones Act seaman is seeking more than $1 million in damages after his eye was injured while working.

Tai Nguyen filed a complaint on July 3 in the Jefferson County District Court against Lady Marie Inc., Tuan Vu, Thuy Vu and KC LLC alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 24, 2017, he was severely injured when the grinder and a metal tool he was required to use kicked back and struck him in the face, destroying his right eye.

The plaintiff holds Lady Marie Inc., Tuan Vu, Thuy Vu and KC LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly required him to use a tool for an unintended purpose, failed to provide proper training on how to use the tool and failed to provide proper medical care.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, plus interest, court costs and all further relief to which he may be entitled. He is represented by Jim Hart, Eloy E. Gaitan and Cesar Tavares of Williams, Kherkher, Hart, Boundas LLP in Houston.
