LUFKIN – A Crockett resident alleges that she was paid less than her male counterparts.

Sherry Reed filed a complaint on July 26 in the Lufkin Division of the Eastern District of Texas against The Consolidated Water Supply Corp. alleging that the former employer violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Equal Pay Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is 64 and began working for the defendant in 1984 as a receptionist before being promoted to general manager in 2000. The suit states she was the only female that worked in management during her tenure. She alleges that her male subordinate earned more than she did and that she was also the lowest-paid management member. She also states that she was harassed by a board member because she was a woman.

Her employment was terminated on March 21, the suit states.

The plaintiff holds The Consolidated Water Supply Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly discriminated against her in connection with the compensation, terms, conditions and privileges of employment, retaliated against her and terminated her because of her complaints of discrimination.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks all damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorneys' fees, costs of court and such other equitable and appropriate relief. She is represented by Alfonso Kennard Jr. and Keenya Harrold of Kennard Richard PC in Houston.
