Gulf Coast Cath Lab patient files suit after allegedly suffering stroke after procedure

Medical malpractice 07

BEAUMONT – A Jefferson County man alleges that he suffered a stroke after a heart procedure.

Ricky Johnson filed a complaint on July 10 in the Jefferson County District Court against Port Arthur Cardiac Cath Lab GB LLC, doing business as Gulf Coast Cath Lab, alleging breach of a standard of care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff underwent a cardiac catheterization at the defendant's premises on May 8, 2015. He alleges he went to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas the next day because of diplopia, slurred speech and left-sided weakness and had suffered a stroke.

The plaintiff holds Port Arthur Cardiac Cath Lab GB LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to recognize a stroke and prematurely released him with no stroke work up of any kind.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages within the jurisdictional limits of the court, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of suit and such other general and special relief. He is represented by Collin D. Cobb of The Monk Law Firm in Beaumont and Barry C. Bennet of Bennet Legal PC in Beaumont.
