BEAUMONT – A Jefferson County resident has filed a medical malpractice case over the death of a Nederland man.
Jeanette Daley, individually and as representative of the estate of Richard J. Daley, deceased filed a complaint on Aug. 17 in the Jefferson County District Court against Nidal Buheis M.D.; Srinivasa Rao-Kothapalli MD; NIB MD PA; and S.K. Rao MD, PA alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, Richard J. Daley saw Buheis beginning in August 2015 and was told by Buheis that he suffered from atrial fibrillation. The suit states Buheis and Rao-Kothapalli prescribed amiodarone to him with instructions on Jan. 11, 2016, to follow up in 10 months. The plaintiff alleges Richard Daley saw a different cardiologist in June 2016 and was told he did not have atrial fibrillation and was taken off of the drug.
The suit states the decedent was taken to the hospital on Aug. 24, 2016, and was determined that his liver was failing. The suit states he died Sept. 27, 2016, due to liver failure, drug induced liver injury.
The plaintiff holds Buheis, Rao-Kothapalli MD, NIB MD PA and Rao MD, PA responsible because Buheis and Rao-Kothapalli allegedly inappropriately prescribed amiodarone, a dangerous drug to an elderly person.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, plus interest, court costs and any further relief that are lawful and equitable. She is represented by Jack E. McGehee, H.C. Chang, Stephen A. Barnes and Benjamin T. Landgraf of McGehee, Chang, Barnes, Landgraf in Houston.
