Patient accuses Christus Dubuis Hospital of Beaumont of medical negligence

Medical malpractice 09

BEAUMONT – A Jefferson County woman alleges that a sponge was left in a wound after discharge from a hospital.

Misti Lewis filed a complaint on Aug. 24 in the Jefferson County District Court against Christus Continuing Care, doing business as Christus Dubuis Hospital of Beaumont, alleging medical negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was receiving care for a wound at the defendant's facility in August 2015 and part of this care involved the removal of sponges in the wound and a treatment with a wound vac. She alleges a week after discharge, a home health care nurse noticed that a foreign object seemed to be trapped under the plaintiff's skin in the wound. The suit states that on Aug. 27, 2015, she underwent surgery to remove a wound vac sponge that was left by the defendant.

The plaintiff holds Christus Continuing Care responsible because the defendant allegedly breached the standard of care.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $100,000 but less than $200,000 and such other relief to which she is entitled. She is represented by Craig Lewis and Aaron J. Arenas of The Lewis Law Firm in Houston.
