Beaumont woman sues waste hauler over collision

Car accident 02

BEAUMONT — A driver is suing Waste Management of Texas Inc. and one of its employees after she was injured in a collision on Highway 87 near Orange.

Anjum Rahman filed a complaint on Sept. 28 in the Jefferson County District Court against defendants Danella Johnson and Waste Management of Texas Inc., alleging that Waste Management negligently entrusted its vehicle to an incompetent and unsafe driver.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 6, 2016, she was seriously and permanently injured when the motor vehicle she was driving was struck by a vehicle operated by defendant Johnson, who was working for the waste hauler at the time. She has experienced pain and suffering, lost earnings and medical expenses, the complaint said. The plaintiff holds Johnson and Waste Management responsible because Johnson allegedly failed to operate the vehicle at a reasonable speed, failed to yield right of way and failed to maintain a careful lookout.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million and other lawful and equitable relief. She is represented by Cody S. Dishon of the Ferguson Law Firm LLP in Beaumont.
