GALVESTON – An African-American woman alleges she was retaliated against after engaging in protected activity by her former employer.
Vickie Walker filed a complaint on Oct. 18 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston alleging that the hospital operator violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff began her employment with the defendant as a human resources representative in August 2013. She alleges that she was discriminated against regarding compensation, terms and conditions and privileges of her employment because of her race. The suit states she discharged on Jan. 29, 2015.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks all damages, reinstatement, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court, attorney's fees and such other lawful and equitable relief. She is represented by Alfonso Kennard Jr. and Jose E. Galvan of Kennard Richard PC in Houston.
