Black maintenance technician files discrimination complaint against Lone Star College System

HOUSTON – A Houston man alleges he was subjected to disparate treatment by his employer because of his race.

Shelvie Hardin filed a complaint on Dec. 11, 2017, in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Lone Star College System and Chancellor/Chief Executive Officer Stephen C. Head alleging violation of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was hired as a maintenance technician in the heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration department at the North Harris campus. 

He alleges he was the only black technician in the department and filed a discrimination complaint on July 11, 2017. After the complaint was filed, he alleges he was subjected to further disparate treatment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks back pay and front pay, compensatory and punitive damages, attorneys’ fees and costs and such other general or special relief. He is represented by Connor Throckmorton and Bruce A. Coane of Coane & Associates PLLC in Houston.
