HOUSTON – 2017 was an unforgettable year for Houston.

Hurricane Harvey.

The Astros’ first World Series title.

The surprise pre-Christmas snowfall.

For one prominent Texas attorney based in the Bayou City, however, 2017 was memorable for mostly the wrong reasons.

Tony Buzbee’s year ended on a sour note. What was supposed to be a romantic evening between Buzbee, 49, and a 29-year-old freelance court reporter from Dallas last Dec. 23 emerged into the date from Hell as the woman ended up vandalizing a few pieces of artwork at his River Oaks residence.

Lindy Lou Layman was arrested and transported to the Harris County Jail. Posting $30,000 bond, she reportedly had her day in court prior to New Year’s Eve.

Prior to Buzbee’s encounter with Layman, TMZ purportedly obtained a video of the attorney receiving lap dances from strippers during a Hurricane Harvey relief party. The footage in question showed Buzbee sitting on stage taking in the dances while rapper Snoop Dogg performed.

Buzbee is accustomed to filing lawsuits on behalf of others, yet two months ago, he brought one of his own against a trio of attorneys from Louisiana for interfering with a wrongful death case. Court documents claim Buzbee lost out on $10 million in attorney fees.

Back in September 2017, the Texas A&M football team’s heartbreaking 45-44 loss to UCLA prompted Buzbee to call for the termination of head coach Kevin Sumlin on Facebook. Buzbee is an A&M Former Student and a member of the board of regents.

Sumlin was eventually fired from College Station.

Regarding the Layman situation, it is unclear whether Buzbee pursued legal action against her.
