HOUSTON – An alleged mishap with a piece of equipment at his job is the subject of a Harris County man’s lawsuit.

Recent court documents filed by Helder Reyes in the Harris County 125th District Court on Jan. 4 claims Reyes lost part of his right index finger while using a band saw to cut meat at Salvador’s Meat Market last May 31.

Reyes, a butcher, says the machine was not equipped with a “push plate” – a device designed to keep an operator’s hands away from the saw. Salvador’s purportedly instructed its employees to continue operating the band saw without safety devices.

“While operating the band saw, Mr. Reyes’s right index finger was partially severed,” the suit says.

Consequently, the plaintiff seeks unspecified monetary damages.

He is represented by attorney Justin Carlisle of the Law Offices of Domingo Garcia, L.L.P. in Houston.
