HOUSTON – A woman’s stay at a Southeast Houston motel two years ago allegedly involved a fire in her room, resulting in litigation.

Harris County resident Jennifer Edwards is suing SCG LH Houston Hobby Airport, L.P.; InTown Suites Management, Inc.; InTown Suites; Sun Suites; Sun Suites of Clear Lake; Sun Suites of Clear Lake, L.L.L.P.; and Sun Suites Holdings, LLC over the Jan. 8, 2016, incident at the InTown Suites located at 12485 Gulf Fwy.

Edwards’s lawsuit, which was filed on Jan. 5 in the Harris County 151th District Court, asserts the fire started in the bathroom exhaust fan while she slept. Court papers state the plaintiff’s room lacked functioning smoke detectors.

“As a result of the fire, and Ms. Edwards’s delayed awareness of it, she suffered personal injuries and property damages,” the original petition says.

It additionally faults the defendants for failing to warn Edwards about the subject conditions.

Consequently, she seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Attorney Alex W. Horton of The Krist Law Firm, P.C. in Houston is representing the complainant.
