HOUSTON – Red Roof Inn is demanding a former employee pay back money he allegedly stole last year.

Court papers filed on Jan. 10 in the Harris County 269th District Court claim Sugar Land resident Zain Kurlawala pocketed $1,419 while working the front desk at the plaintiff’s business in Northwest Houston on July 16, 2017.

The lawsuit asserts it has audit documents and video camera surveillance of the defendant’s act in question.

“The owner of the Red Roof Inn confronted the defendant about the missing funds and demanded re-payment,” the original petition says.

Kurlawala was subsequently terminated though the suit does not mention whether he faced criminal charges.

He purportedly refused to repay the money, according to the complaint.

Kelly G. Prather of The Greenwood Prather Law Firm in Houston is representing the plaintiff.
